Estimating Costs

These estimates are based on costs for the West Seattle Memory Book project. Be sure to get accurate quotes from vendors before estimating your costs.

Workbook
     Layout
  • $10.00–15.00 per page, depending on complexity and number of photographs used
  • $6.00–10.00 per photograph for scanning

Printing and Binding

  • Comb bound book with 30 pages: $3.00/book


Memory Book
     Layout
  • $55.00–70.00 per page, depending on complexity and number of photographs used

Scanning

  • $500/1 day of scanning (minimum 80 scans)
  • $850/2 days of scanning (minimum 160 scans)

Scanning can also be priced on a per-image basis ($5.25-10.00 each, depending on quantity)

Printing and Binding

  • Comb bound book with 50 pages of 67# vellum bristol: $6.95/book


Project Director
     You should also plan to pay a project director $35.00–40.00 per hour for approximately 300 hours. Some of the responsibilities of the director are:
  • Manage meetings
  • Send out correspondence (at least once per month)
  • Consultations with oral historians and volunteers
  • Consultations with book designer/publisher
  • Plan/Manage on-site scanning days
  • Final editing and selection of stories and images
  • Grant management or funding source development
  • Publicity
