History

West Seattle Memories In 1999, Capturing Memories assisted the Southwest Seattle Historical Society (SWSHS) in creating a memory book for their Log House Museum. A memory-sparking workbook was created and distributed to over 70 people who lived in West Seattle in the first half of the twentieth century. Over 42 workbooks were returned, filled with wonderful memoirs of the 1920s, '30s, and '40s. Folks were hungry to share their stories!

From this collection, a book and museum exhibit were created. The book, West Seattle Memories—Alki, contains over 125 images and stories. A large version of the book was made to display in the Museum's new exhibit, 47 Voices Remember. This exhibit showcases even more stories, images, and artifacts, and includes videos from SWSHS's oral history project.

Association of King County Historical Organizations West Seattle Memories—Alki was the recipient of a Long Term Project Award from the Association of King County Historical Organizations (AKCHO).

Preserving the Stories of Issaquah In June 2001, we assisted the Issaquah Historical Society in publishing their Memory Book, Preserving the Stories of Issaquah, a compilation of the stories, memories, and photographs of more than 50 long-time residents of the Issaquah community. The book includes tales of first cars, mining, the kissing corner at the Issaquah theatre, getting by during the Depression, school-days mischief, and haircuts gone awry—as wide a range of life experiences as you can imagine. The narrators’ voices capture the spirit of the town’s unique history. And the stories are illustrated with 90 crisply printed historic photographs!
